The Disobedient Body questions the virtue of obedience imposed on women and disrupts patriarchal order. At its centre is the Hybrid Monster, which transforms images used to stigmatise women, including animals, monsters and sexual objects, into vitality and agency. Expressed through drawing, scent and sculpture, the Hybrid Monster moves across multiple media. Within this practice, fashion functions as a sculptural form that gives the Monster a body and enables movement and performance. Combining the traditional Korean bride, the Korean shaman, historically regarded as abnormal and marginalised, and the Hybrid Monster, the soft sculpture departs from the visual language of the female body as an object of beauty and desire, emerging as a grotesque, unfamiliar and transcendent being.
